Surprise surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the Bonifacio Global City Run this morning. As I said in a previous post, I was NOT looking forward to this race at all, but it turned out that this was the best among all other 5ks I’ve joined the past couple of weeks.
Here’s why:
[ POSITIVES ]
1. Race started on time - 6 a.m. on the dot. Thank God my alarm clock rang this time…and my back up cellphone too!
2. Water was overflowing - In my 5k run, I passed three water stations. Three! Now that’s how to treat us hardworking runners. Pour on the agua!
3. Lots of marshals - There were marshals at every turn. If you lost your way here, you would have no one else to blame but yourself for drinking too much last night.
4. Clean restrooms - No need for those sucky, yucky, stinky, and hell on earth portalets. Bonifacio High Street’s restrooms were free to use…without the long lines too.
5. Food was being served - I didn’t line up for this, but hey I’m sure a lot of those runners who skipped breakfast appreciated it.
6. “Entertainment” - A number of celebrities showed up to run for charity…even more than the Kapuso race!
PLUS:
7. Hubby and I arrived a good 30 minutes in advance. I had enough time to warm up, stretch, and run to the restroom.
8. My best running buddy, Annie, claimed 4th place overall and 1st place in her age category. Congrats again Annie!
9. Hubby boasted of a faster time too.
10. As for me, I ran at a faster pace with much more confidence and less paranoia over my knee. It felt great to once again try to outpace some men (heehee) and break away from the walking crowd. I still didn’t go full blast; in fact, I kind of burned out at 4km due to my lack of training but oh it was awesome. I fell in love with races again! As for my time, errr was it around 29 minutes? Or 27? I’m afraid I’ll have to wait for the official results for that. Now, you must be scratching your head asking “Hmm…didn’t TBR time herself?” which leads me then to this…
The only bad experience of the Global City Run for me was…
[ NEGATIVE ]
Someone here forgot to charge her Garmin! (Ah, that’s me by the way.) Argh! It died on me while waiting for the starting gun to fire! The race was this close to being perfect were it not for my little booboo. No worries. The positives far outweighed the negative.
- Celebrities who ran for charity took centerstage. Hats off to them! -

- Athletes and hosts Drew Arellano (nice seeing you again, Drew!) and Paolo Abrera -

- Jackie Castillejo and popular fashion models ran too…or did they really? I’m not so sure since, again, there’s not an ounce of sweat on them. Plus, I can’t imagine running with my hair down and bangs covering my eyes! -

- Me with Annie, Jenny (another fast runner) and her sis. Next time, please remind me to lose 10 lbs before posing with athletes like these. I look huge beside them! -
- Patrick C. and Annie A. -
- I wish I had taken more photos of real runners like these cool guys above. Next time I promise…less celebrities, more runners -

Ironically, kapuso talents ang mga narito! Hehe. Si Drew lost some weight ah.
And you, huge? Shut up. :p

Nice pics, bullrunner! Well, I finally resurrected my running career. I planned on doing a 22:00 5km run and what i did was a 22:57 which isn’t bad at all. I was looking forward to seeing the old gang of runners, I hardly bumped into one or two. I felt like a newcomer. But it was fun. It is good to be back. I cant wait to get back in shape and run close to my PRs (personal records, that’s what we used to call them then) or even break them if I still have it in my legs. It’s only been 2 years since I was out of circulation and a lot has changed. Well, hope to “see you on the roads” (a Bill Rodgers’ greeting to runners)

My friends saw Danny Siegle at the start, not sure if he ran though. They were cheered on as they took pictures in front of Anta just before the race started.
Yep, the models did run. It was like a photo shoot as well. They still looked fresh afterwards. : ) I saw Donald Geisler just as he entered the finish line. There were no other housemates with him though. hehehe Channel 7 camera man was there as well. He took footage of my group, baka ma edit out nga lang. hehehe
Thanks for the loot bag, I’ve been speed reading since yesterday. As for the race, its a new PR. Thanks to BR for keeping me running and to my nagging slow pace alert. : )

Marga, you should’ve joined! Forget your race abstinence already
26miler, hey great time. Congrats! Oh, I don’t think it’s been that long since you last ran… we still call them PRs till now.
Mark, I have photos of the bastketball players towering over the sea of little runners around them hahaha. I didn’t post it anymore since I’m not a big basketball fan. Congrats with the PR…and the weight loss. I hardly recognized you and Charlie from the 1st time we met.

2. It was very nice to meet your husband also. You are very bless he is a very nice guy. Funny but our first encounter was in the Restroom and yes the restroom was very clean.
3. Rule no. 1 The day before a race make sure you FULLY charge your GF 305.
4. You dont look huge compared to the other athletes. you still look in very good running form.
Global run was a simple but very nice race and this time the distance was accurate for a 10k . my GF 205 registerd 9.95km -+ .5 accuracy.

Me and my sister were late (My sister’s first marathon and run - she hasn’t been running). We were behind the pack of runners but we ran anyway. We didn’t pass through the big time clock. I was wondering if our time gets recorded if we didn’t go through that big timer. I went through the finish line though. Would you happen to know if the time gets recorded? Thanks Bull Runner!

I was supposed to cheer for you when you passed me by at the front of Market Market… but my manly pride took over as you “chicked” me :D. Kidding, I was out of breath to even let out a weak whimper. Nice to know that you’re almost back to your running form
April 21, 2008 at 10:55 am
Absolutely Agree!…a very smooth run. Was on cruise control.
April 21, 2008 at 11:07 am
I am dying with envy!!! But its nice to know that you are fully recovered.
You got your Hubby to give up golf again! I am impressed… or maybe he plays on Saturday.
Regards Mark

Runningshield, nice seeing you again even if it wasn’t in our favorite AAVA roads. Aaaw, thanks for the kinds words about the hubby. Yup, he’s a great guy. Bonus points for him now that he’s running too haha
Lugs, oh yes I noticed the balde too! If it helps to make you feel better, I peeked at the bottom of the balde and it was clean haha. Congrats with your time! Any kind of improvement is good news no matter how little
Josef, hmm…isn’t the big clock right on top of the finish line? I would think your time was recorded. Did they get the stub from your bib?
Superman, my hubby would’ve been flattered to hear this. Unfortunately, I didn’t even know who that guy was as I crossed the finish! Sayang we didn’t meet.
Black Sigil, hey next time say hi!
Idnod, let’s wish for more races like this one.
Mark P, aw it’s just a matter of time for you. What did your doc say? Hubby would never choose running over golf…at least not yet. Your guess was right, he plays on saturdays.
Marga, aba secret training in the outskirts of Manila. See you soon…thursday?!

Wow that looked like a really nice run…I missed the ANTA Global CIty Run,due to that horrific 80km Category C ride at the 94km Weekend at the SCTEx last Saturday and didnt recover from my burns due to the bad sun (and slow cycling), the race start was late at 9 am which was supposed to be 7:30…nice hi-way…but really really hot…when is the next run guys?
April 21, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Hi TBR! Agree with you. It was really a nice event. And I did see you breeze by…nadyahe lang ako bumati baka masira yung momentum mo (and honestly, It was hard enough to breath let alone talk!).
Dami nga celebrities pero kasama na rin kayo ni Baldrunner doon!

my thoughts exactly about the models–i doubt they ran. congrats to you and hubby.
April 23, 2008 at 11:38 am
Hi Jaymie, for the last pic, they are runners from the fort striders. The guy on the left is Jonathan. He’s one of the fast ones who has a 16min 5KPR.
I wasn’t able to join this run because I was in Bulacan. Thanks for sharing this event.
April 23, 2008 at 7:49 pm
jaymie, remind me next time not to wear white top when i run… too much “protrudin” going on! hahaha! yup, i agree that the event was well-equiped in terms of satisfying the runners… im sure they were overly-conscious of the MIZUNO incident. =) See ya at the next run!
April 24, 2008 at 9:35 pm
when are the results going to be posted?
April 26, 2008 at 7:20 pm
hi… it’s good to see our buddies from Fort Striders Club. They’re those you described as “real runners like these cool guys above”. They look great … actually the one at the middle Mr. Diony P. won the 60 something category. The one on the left is Jonathan Galo. He also is always on the top 10 in different races. That day, his daughter won. I think she’s 8 or 9years old. The one on the left is Mr. Delmo sullano. He’s our treasurer. He would always go back to pace with slow runners like me so we would not be fetched by the ambulance. these men are truly runners.. Happy running to us all!! Hope you post more real runners next time.. great pics.. thanks
April 30, 2008 at 10:32 am
Yes my result na… sa Post ni baldrunner. got the copy na din…
April 30, 2008 at 4:44 pm
From the race results, I think I won on my age group catagory 58-62. My bib no is 1451. age 59. If this is not a mistake, how can I claim my victory? . Thank you.
